ABSTRACT

This paper describes the current milestones achieved in our ongoing project that aims to understand the surveillance of, impact of, and effective interventions against the COVID-19 misinfodemic on Twitter. Specifically, it introduces a public dashboard which, in addition to displaying case counts in an interactive map and a navigational panel, also provides some unique features not found in other places. Particularly, the dashboard uses a curated catalog of COVID-19 related facts and debunks of misinformation, and it displays the most prevalent information from the catalog among Twitter users in user-selected U.S. geographic regions. The paper explains how to use BERT-based models to match tweets with the facts and misinformation and to detect their stance towards such information. The paper also discusses the results of preliminary experiments on analyzing the spatiotemporal spread of misinformation.

ABSTRACT

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, comprehensive and thorough environmental disinfection is a very important issue. In order to reduce personnel contact and reduce the risk of cross-infection, this paper designs an indoor disinfecting intelligent robot that can realize large-scale combined disinfection of disinfectant and ultraviolet. The whole system comprises of five main parts: control center, running control module, disinfection module, information processing module, and power module. The control center mainly adopts ESP32micro-controller to achieve the connection and control of all parts of the system. The running control module mainly controls the forward, backward, and rotation of the device and ensures that the system follows the expected path during the disinfection. The disinfection module uses liquid disinfectant and ultraviolet irradiation to inhibit the bacteria and kill COVID-19. Information processing module is responsible for the information interaction between the system and the data center. The proposed system transmits data through Wi-Fi and MQTT protocol, and realizes basic functions such as positioning, path planning, and disinfection. The proposed system can effectively solve the problem of personal contact and infection in the process of manual disinfection and have nice application value. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Production fragmentation across multiple regions can result in a regional shock propagating along value chains to a wider array of regions. We propose a methodological framework to measure the economic exposure to regional value chain disruptions due to city lockdown during Covid-19. The exposure index is evaluated by applying a hypothetical extraction method to a regionally extended inter-country input-output framework incorporating China's interregional input-output table. Our methodology can be adapted to conduct disaster impact analyses at city, state and country levels. It provides a tool for the immediate assessment of the economic risks of value chain disruptions, enabling quick policy responses.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19, caused by SARS-COV-2, has the characteristics of world epidemic, highly infectious and large base of death. In China, transmission route of SARS-COV-2 has been contained so effectively that COVID-19 has been well controlled due to the proactive national prevention and control strategy. However, not only does it bring a huge impact on the existing medical structure model, but also an objective impact on the treatment of patients with chronic diseases such as malignant tumors. Based on the progress reported in the domestic and international literatures and the actual management experience of our team, this paper reflects on the treatment strategies for patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) during the epidemic period of COVID-19. We focus on risk stratification for primary GIST and forming treatment strategies accordingly. Major considerations include the impact of delayed operation, the burden of medical resources, the waiting time for elective operation, and the principle of emergency operation. In addition, we focus on the level of evidence for non-surgical approaches with a view to developing a holistic strategy of "priority management principles" to guide clinical treatment in the context of limited resources and different GIST priorities.

ABSTRACT

As the national key discipline and the initiator of oral and maxillofacial deformity group, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery persisted in teaching, designed a novel teaching form combining theoretical knowledge and online software practice according to the characteristics of our discipline and carried out "cloud training" via the National Oral Telemedicine Education Platform. Ten lecturers, 325 theoretical students and 50 practical students were investigated by questionnaire in the present study with questions focusing on the geographical distribution and composition of personnel, etc. The results showed that the online course covered a wide range of students and achieved high acceptance and satisfaction rate. The first online software operation course was conducted in an orderly manner, with timely interaction between teachers and students. The students were able to master the design process skillfully. This "cloud training" has achieved good results, but there are still a series of problems that have yet to be resolved, such as network stalls and protection of intellectual property rights. Under the new form, the exploration and analysis of the new mode of online telemedicine specialist education will provide some practical reference for the National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases to carry out online telemedicine teaching in the future.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of strengthening nosocomial infection control measures on reducing the distribution of pathogenic bacteria in hospital environment during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), so as to provide support for epidemic prevention and safety. Methods A total of 160 sampling sites (45 by plate sedimentation method and 115 by swab method) were randomly selected as the control group before strengthening nosocomial infection control measures (from Dec. 21, 2019 to Jan. 21, 2020). After strengthening the measures (from Jan. 24 to Feb. 24, 2020), 160 sampling sites (64 by plate sedimentation method and 96 by swab method) were selected as the observation group. The changes of pathogenic bacteria distribution in the hospital environment before and after strengthening nosocomial infection control measures were compared. Results Before strengthening nosocomial infection control measures, 39 (24.4%) of 160 sampling sites were positive for pathogenic bacterial colonies, including seven (15.6%) positive in 45 by plate sedimentation method and 32 (27.8%) positive in 115 by swab method. After strengthening nosocomial infection control measures, 18 (11.2%) of 160 sampling sites were positive, including four (6.2%) positive in 64 by plate sedimentation method and 14 (14.6%) positive in 96 by swab method. Statistical analysis showed that there was no significant difference in the positive rate of pathogenic bacteria by plate sedimentation method after strengthening nosocomial infection control measures than that before strengthening nosocomial infection control measures. However, the positive rates of swab method and total pathogenic bacterial colonies were both significantly lower than those before strengthening nosocomial infection control measures (P=0.020 and 0.002). The pathogenic bacterial colony number sampled by plate sedimentation method after strengthening nosocomial infection control measures was (0.69±0.09) CFU/cm2, which was similar when compared with that before strengthening nosocomial infection control measures ([0.85±0.15] CFU/cm2). The pathogenic bacterial colony number sampled by swab method after strengthening nosocomial infection control measures was (0.19±0.06) CFU per plate, which was significantly lower than that before strengthening nosocomial infection control measures ([0.32±0.08] CFU per plate) (P=0.001). Conclusion During the outbreak of COVID-19, strengthening disinfection and improving disinfection quality can effectively reduce the pathogenic bacterial colonies in the hospital environment, reducing the risk of infection exposure of medical staff.

ABSTRACT

In December 2019, a new outbreak of corona virus disease 2019 began to occur. Its pathogen is 2019-nCoV, which has the characteristics of strong infectivity and general susceptibility. The current situation of prevention and control of new coronavirus pneumonia is severe. In this context, as front-line medical workers bearing important responsibilities and pressure, while through strict management strategy, we can minimize the risk of infection exposure. By summarizing the research progress and guidelines in recent years in the fields of colorectal cancer disease screening, treatment strategies (including early colorectal cancer, locally advanced colorectal cancer, obstructive colorectal cancer, metastatic colorectal cancer and the treatment of patients after neoadjuvant therapy), the choice of medication and time limit for adjuvant therapy, the protective measures for patients undergoing emergency surgery, the re-examination of postoperative patients and the protection of medical staff, etc., authors improve treatment strategies in order to provide more choices for patients to obtain the best treatment under the severe epidemic situation of new coronavirus pneumonia. Meanwhile we hope that it can also provide more timely treatment modeling schemes for colleagues.
